Acting in favor of the energy transition is a commitment from which there is no turning back and one that pushes you to look forward. RCR continues its journey toward improving its production facilities with a focus on sustainability and total quality.
Among the various initiatives undertaken, in October, the company expanded its photovoltaic panel surface by 8,000 square meters, covering the roofs of the company buildings, from offices to production areas.
This expansion adds to the 30,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels already installed in 2012—the largest reconversion operation in central Italy—reaching a total of 38,000 square meters. With this project, the total solar energy generated by RCR will amount to 5.3 GWh annually, equivalent to the domestic energy needs of 4,400 Italian citizens. Based on the average household size, this corresponds to the energy requirements of 2,750 families. For a broader perspective, the annual energy produced could power a medium-sized electric car traveling around the Earth’s circumference 777 times, thus avoiding the extraction of 17,000 barrels of oil.
A continuous energy efficiency plan ensures a real transition for the Tuscan plant, which aims to consistently reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
RCR produces high-quality superior sound glass, LUXION, which is 100% recyclable. The company’s commitment to the environment has been a part of its history since its founding in the 1960s, near a Tuscan town whose skies have always been preserved through the use of electric furnaces.
Roberto Pierucci, CEO of RCR, commented, “The principle guiding RCR’s strategy over the past decade is that doing good for people and the environment is good for business. We believe economic results are a consequence of social and environmental sustainability, not the other way around. This is why we have invested in completing the ecological transition through the electrification of the production process (furnaces and channels) as well as renewable energy production. This new project allows us to cover almost all our roofs and generate a significant amount of energy, which we contribute to the grid since, as an energy-intensive company operating continuously, we cannot use it directly. Quality is RCR’s core value, and we strive to achieve it not only through our products but also in our daily operations.”
RCR’s path toward sustainability will continue by implementing solutions that genuinely improve daily life through product innovation, energy management, and continuous training.
